Shmuel Baruch was born in the winter of 1937 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia.
His family was part of a Jewish community expelled from Spain.
When he was 4, the Nazis invaded Yugoslavia.
His childhood was rife with persecution, hunger, terror and anxiety.
At the age of 12, Shmuel made aliya with his parents on the ship "Caplos" which arrived at the port of Haifa on December 25, 1948.
His parents were among the founders of Beit Zeit,
a moshav established in 1949, near Jerusalem.
In 1954 he joined the IDF and served in the Givati Brigade.
In 1965 he married Ora. After a brief national service as educational social workers in Dimona, they decided to build their home in Beit Zeit, where their sons, Eran and Gil, were born.
After the Yom Kipur War, they moved to Kibbutz Netiv Halamed-Heh, where their son, Niv, was born.
Shmuel worked in almost all of kibbutz’s jobs:
chicken coops, orchards, the factory,
and for many years he was the kibbutz’s security coordinator.
His main pride was the family he made for himself in Israel,
His wife Ora, their three sons Eran, Gil and Niv,
And their grandchildren that he doted on and loved so much.
And they, especially the grandchildren showered him with love in return.
Shmuel died of lung cancer on July 16, 2014.
May his memory be a blessing.

The body is the reason for love
Then it is the fortress that guards it
Then it becomes the prison of love
But when the body dies, love flies out freely
And in great abundance,
Like a broken slot machine
That all at once pours out
with a thunderous clinging all the coins
of all the fortune generations.
